The A-Z of Why the Internet is Shit

E is for ...

Encyclopedia Dramatica

If you were looking specifically for the most politically incorrect, offensive, disturbing, grossly inappropriate and horrifying website on the internet, Encyclopedia Dramatica is where it's happening.

The site is a Wiki website; like Wikipedia, it can be freely edited and pages added whenever necessary; the content is purely user-driven. However, unlike Wikipedia and its efforts to remove the trash, Encyclopedia Dramatica thrives on filth and putrid content. Forget law when it comes to Encyclopedia Dramatica; the satirical Wiki is governed only by internet trolls intent on offending everyone possible on every front they can.

I am partly hypocritical in my entry of ED to the A-Z, on the basis that I have actually found a page I found hilariously entertaining; Raptor Jesus, apparently originally a meme from another odd site, 4chan, is quite possibly one of the better things on the internet, simply for its oddness.

Otherwise, the Wiki is mostly obscene. The site, which must be viewed with a light outlook initially to avoid being crushed by the onslaught of textual vileness, reeks of disgusting content, both in its text and the pictures peppering each article. One page in particular, which I will not link to for its overbearing grossness, is linked to at the top of particularly offensive articles, to offer a means of escape. Initially, the hideously long page starts with cute pictures; lovely nice things to cheer you up after being crapped upon by grotesqueness. Then - bang! - you're hit with a gruesome picture of a dead man covered in blood, his head looking as through it has been hit by a particularly large sledgehammer.

It was at this point that I closed the page; I am assured worse follows.

For going much too far in political incorrectness, Encyclopedia Dramatica is reason number five that the internet is shit, and when I take the reins of this cyber web, it will be closed down indefinitely and replaced with pictures of kittens.
